
Japan 4-0 Tunisia: Blue Samurai Top Group F in Style

Japan produced a breathtaking attacking display in their second Group F match of the 2026 World Cup, thrashing Tunisia 4-0 to top the group on goal difference ahead of the Netherlands.
The match at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey saw Japan take control from the first whistle. In the 12th minute, Takefusa Kubo cut inside from the right and curled a left-footed shot into the far corner to open the scoring.
Japan doubled their lead in the 28th minute. Kaoru Mitoma broke down the left and pulled back for Daizen Maeda, who slotted home first time to make it 2-0.
The second half brought more pressure. In the 55th minute, Kubo's corner was flicked on by Ko Itakura at the near post, and Junya Ito tapped in at the back post for 3-0.
In the 78th minute, Mitoma crossed from the left, Takumi Minamino saw his volley saved, but Ao Tanaka followed up to score the fourth.
The result leaves Japan with four points from two matches (one win, one draw) and a goal difference of +4, top of Group F. The Netherlands also have four points but a +3 GD, with Sweden on three points and Tunisia on zero.
Japan face Sweden in their final group match and need only a draw to guarantee progress. The Netherlands, meanwhile, face Tunisia and are heavy favorites. The path to the knockout stage looks bright for the Blue Samurai.
