Portugal 5-0 Uzbekistan: Ronaldo Double Powers Portugal to Top of Group K
Portugal thrashed Uzbekistan 5-0 at NRG Stadium in Houston, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice. Bernardo Silva and Rafael Leão also found the net as Portugal moved to six points atop Group K.
Portugal put on an attacking masterclass in their second group match of the 2026 World Cup, thrashing Uzbekistan 5-0 at NRG Stadium in Houston. The fans were treated to a goal fest from start to finish.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a powerful header from Bernardo Silva's cross. Silva then doubled the lead with a long-range strike in the 28th minute.
Rafael Leão made it 3-0 in the 55th minute after a solo run, and Ronaldo converted a penalty in the 67th minute for his second of the night.
Substitute Diogo Jota added a fifth in the 82nd minute to cap off a dominant display. Portugal enjoyed 68% possession and had 20 shots on goal.
The victory puts Portugal top of Group K with six points from two matches and a goal difference of +7. Colombia are second with four points.
Uzbekistan, now with two defeats, face an uphill battle to qualify. They will need to beat Colombia in the final group match while hoping Portugal lose to DR Congo.
Portugal coach Roberto Martínez praised his team's efficiency: 'We showed great attacking quality, but we must stay focused for the next game.'
